Throughout this year, I have noticed so many things; some good, some not so much. The commons, the halls, and even in the classroom when the teachers are outside their door, I hear stupid things like someone describing people. It goes something like, “he has blue eyes, blonde hair, and he is white – not trying to be racist!”

I think it’s time to have a serious talk. Describing someone by their color or race is ok. I think it’s time for you to know the definition of the word “racism:”

rac·ism

[ˈrāˌsizəm]

NOUN

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.”

Just thought you should know what racist meant. So make sure you aren’t discriminating against people because of their color or race, and know the difference between doing that and describing someone.
